Today we learned that Kawakami, Tomoko (Apr 25, 1971- 09 June, 2011.) passed away. We as Anime fans feel sad with her passing, and may she rest in peace. Some of her most famous voice overs were:

Around 12pm Pacific time we suffered a database crash and thankfully Hostgator was fast to fix the issue. We will try to investigate what went wrong and if any of the new plugins we installed are to blame. Anyways, we want to apologize for any inconvenience that it might have caused. We also learned that our “backup” system was not working as it should have been, there were a few moments of freaking out but good thing it was only a database crash.

Origin: Spirits of The Past or by the alternative title Gin-iro no kami no Agito (Japanese), takes us in an incredible journey of what the future might look like if mankind would mess up with the natural flow of life. Here is a plot summary done by AnimeNewsNetwork read it if you wish to get a spoil free summary of the movie and then after you watch the movie you can come back and read the commentary.

At first I was a little skeptical about the movie because of all the bad reviews I had read previously watching this movie on YouTube and some other sites. But after watching the trailer and listening to the original Japanese trailer:
my heart jumped in excitement and went to buy it from Amazon right away. I could have streamed it or some other way but nothing comes closer to watching it on full HD on the big screen on the living room. Konata Izumi

Konata Izumi (泉 こなた Izumi Konata?) is, more by default than anything else, the “leader” and the shortest of the main characters. Nicknamed “Kona-chan” (こなちゃん?) by Tsukasa, she is an eccentric but friendly and outgoing girl, with a mischievous yet good-natured sense of humor. She can be smart, but she hates studying[1], thus her grades are a bit uneasy.[2] However, she is an expert in pulling an “all-nighter”.[3] In contrast to her studying habits, she loves video games,[4] to the extent that she can compete against Kagami Hiiragi on trivia-based games.[5] In addition, she loves anime, which is also due to her father, Sōjirō Izumi’s influence,[6] along with the games. Her father buys adult games for himself, so she is able to play and enjoy them.[7] In fact, when she became eighteen, Konata was overjoyed, since she could now go buy and play ero-games legally. In the anime, Konata constantly refers to or parodies several popular games, anime, and manga (much to the annoyance of Kagami). Both of her voice actresses for the animated version, Aya Hiranofor the Japanese version and Wendee Lee for the English version, are in fact the same people who voiced Haruhi Suzumiyain The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya anime; other voice actors from the same series make guest appearances during the course of Lucky Star.
In order to fund her interests, Konata had a part-time job at a cosplay cafe in Akihabara.[3][1] In online gaming, she played a male fighter type character, that gets married to a female fighting character that is actually a guy.[8] She often plays late into the night, hence why she tends to fall asleep in class, which makes her a frequent victim to her homeroom teacher, Nanako Kuroi.[6] Ironically, Ms. Kuroi was also part of Konata’s team in the same game.[8] Konata rarely eats a “normal” Japanese lunch, as she frequently eats only a chocolate cornet.
Her physique is smaller than average when compared to her peers, which she claims haven’t changed since she was in the sixth grade.[9] She is ambidextrous, in contrast to the mostly left-handed main cast. She has long, blue hair which comes down to her calves with a large ahoge, sleepy eyes, a catlike smile and a beauty mark under her left eye, just like her father. Her mother, Kanata Izumi, died when she was an infant, and she has lived alone with her father since.[6] In her third year of high school, however, her cousin, Yutaka Kobayakawa, came to live at her house,[10] giving a total of three people in the Izumi residence. Although Konata spends most of her time playing games in her room, she has a darker skin tone, like her father’s. Konata placed seventh in 2channel‘s SaiMoe 2007 contest, came in second place in the category of “Best Female Character” in the thirtieth Anime Grand Prix, and ranked third in Newtype’s “Top 10 Female Characters of 2007″ poll.

Taiga is Emma 2.0
First I would like to say that it is an usual approach I took to do this reaction paper and instead of watching the straight up versions of Emma or that relate to the novel in a direct way I took another way around it and investigated some new stuff that is coming out that is scary similar to that of Emma’s novel. I guess this matchmaking and stuff that happens around it has always been part in some way of how modern society works. Anime is often seen as something that is shallow and just meant for kids and that it cannot be deep enough to portray mature and concrete actions. Anyways, I could go on for hours talking about it and would not serve that much the purpose of the paper and honestly I think Anime is just another medium to express an idea and to portray a deep story; just like a movie or a novel tries to do. With that say let’s get on with what this reaction paper is about; I will be focusing on Jane Austen’s Emma and Toradora! . Just like Emma, Taiga is the main character in Toradora! And she faces many of the many challenges that Emma encounters during the novel. They also have similar life styles and their quest for perfection always gets them in trouble.
Taiga Aisaka is the matchmaker in Toradora! And she is always in her constant quest to match Ryu Takasu with Minori. Ryu Takasu is her best friend and confidant that is always for her no matter what and her partner in her many pranks. When Ryu tells Taiga that he likes Minori she goes all out to make the match work and along the way she makes many unsuccessful attempts to get them together, but she fails every time. Taiga tells Ryu that she likes the class president, Yusaka Kitamura, and they make the promise that they will help each other out but they fail once again. Just as Emma, went to many failures of trying to make matches for her friends.
The way Taiga and Emma connect to each other is interesting, since they both fail at the matchmaking business and even if their hearts are in the right place they still fail to bring together two completely different people together I would say. We can see how Emma pushes too hard for Harriet and Mr. Elton. Mr. Elton likes Emma and she is incompletely ignorant of this, and when she goes too far she is hit in the face when he confesses to her. It is similar to Taiga and Ryu, when Ryu during Christmas Eve tells Taiga that he loves her, but she just ignores him because she thinks she has stolen him away from Minori. Continue reading »
