At the end of Episode 19, we learned that Cal is not dead (to no surprise). Apparently she escaped death by going to the video store. Reiji (Zwei) thought she died in the blast and never came back to the apartment. Poor Cal was sitting there crying as she wait for Reiji to come back. He never did. Instead, our old buddy, Scythe Master comes through the door way. I shook my head knowing of what to come.
Reij and Elen (Ein) ran away together, bouncing around country to country for 2 years and finally settling in a small town in Japan. Both attended a local high school as sister and brother. It seems that they finally got their wish of finally living a life of normalcy. However they are rudely awakened from their dream by a familiar face.
Yeah that’s right, Cal is freaking back. She came back with a fully developed body, tall as a freaking tree and with the eyes of a ruthless killer. Reiji was mortified by the encounter as she whipped out the pocket watch with that haunting music box tune. He couldn’t believe she’s alive. No hugs and kisses here. Cal is still full of rage. Elen and Reiji will have to pick up their guns again as a new Phantom is coming to claim their titles and lives.
The entire survival and return of Cal is something all of us saw coming from a mile away. Despite foreseeing it all, it is still shocking to even see Cal all grown up and becoming a homicidal monster. Scythe Master claimed that he had nothing to do with molding her into what she is now. I believe him. Cal was already raging for the revenge of her sister’s death. Reiji even trained her to be a killer. The pieces are already in place. It was inevitable that her prodigal skills for killing will one day be used. It will be an emotional battle between Master and Disciple. Who will fall?
